Jimmy’s opened in 1995 as Cambridge’s first all year round night shelter and now offers a much wider range of support. It remains one of the most prominent organisations within the community supporting people who have been rough sleeping in the city.

Jimmy’s is one of our three Community Partners.

We don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. That’s why we provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to us in crisis. We are part of a nationwide network of foodbanks, supported by The Trussell Trust, working to combat poverty and hunger across the UK. Volunteers are the life blood of foodbanks. Your skills could be just what we need.

The Cambridge Churches Homeless Project (CCHP) is a collection of churches and a synagogue that work together to offer practical care and support to people who would otherwise be sleeping rough in our city each winter. We are volunteers from the faith community and the wider community who want to show love to our neighbour in a practical way.

We’re a community of people, primarily based in Cambridge, UK, who are thinking hard about how to help others the most and address the world’s most pressing problems through our careers and donations. RAG (Raising and Giving) is Cambridge's biggest charitable student society. We put on a variety of exciting events each year to raise money for important local, national and international causes.

Our Museum explores over 300 years of Cambridgeshire history and heritage and has something for everyone, and our collections include objects related to the everyday life, customs, and traditions of the local people of the area. The stories that they share can still have meaning today. We want to understand those stories and to continue making connections between the past and the present by collecting peoples’ stories today. Volunteer with us to help share them.

Cambridge Sustainable Food is an innovative and growing partnership of public, private and community organisations in Cambridge and the surrounding villages. We work with each other to promote a vibrant local food system all along the supply chain and in our community.

Whatever your experience, there are opportunities for you to get involved with and support the museums and Botanic Garden. This can be one off sessions such as helping with Twilight at the Museums in February to more regular volunteering such as front of house opportunities at the Museum of Archaeology and Anthropology or becoming a tour guide on our Bridging Binaries Project. We truly appreciate the time given by people filling these roles as they contribute to the meaningful delivery of the collections' aims and objectives.

The Cambridge City Council can help you get connected to local volunteering opportunities, from helping facilitate local sport through to helping facilitate community programmes, working with older and vulnerable people.

CRRC is a registered charity for the purpose of supporting the resettlement of refugees in the Cambridge area. We always need enthusiastic people to volunteer for the organization. We can’t offer money but it’s extremely rewarding to see your work directly helping local refugees. You will meet a bunch of fascinating people if you work with us. We are also very happy to write recommendation letters and give out certificates for the soft skills you acquire during your work with us if this is of help to you.

Kettle’s Yard hugely values its team of volunteers, who have a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Everyone aged 16 and over is welcome to volunteer, and we encourage interest from new voices and perspectives. Upcoming volunteering roles include supporting learning and community activities, supporting our front of house team with events and concerts, helping in the Kettle’s Yard garden and assisting with administration in our office.

Cambridge and District Citizens Advice is a registered charity that provides free, confidential, impartial advice and support to anyone on any problems they face in their lives. We undertake research and campaigning to improve the policies and practices that affect us all. Cambridge Citizens Advice is a charity and relies heavily on the time and commitment from volunteers. Our volunteers come from a wide range of backgrounds and work in various roles. There’s a place for everyone in our volunteer team.
